Portrait of a Woman Looking At Herself Without A Mirror, also more commonly known as Bubble Face, 1914, oil on canvas. By renowned Spanish painter Emilio Piccasto, 1880-1953.

Believed to be a portrait of the painter’s girlfriend, Bernice, who after a bizzre bubble-gum blowing accident was left with half her face pointing in the wrong direction. (This story is unconfirmed.)

Stormy Sunset Over Loch Ness, 1937, acrylic on masonry board.  By renowned landscape artist Jophep Turnip, 1895-1972.

During a 1970 interview with chat show host Bob Minkhouse, Turner attributed the powerful brushstrokes  and green hue of the water to a bad case of indigestion. Turner also claimed to having spotted the Loch Ness monster, actually spoke with the beast for close to an hour (mostly about politics). But Nessie refused to sit for a portrait, so he reluctantly omitted her likeness from this painting.

Study #7 (Iris Field), 1956, oil on canvas. By esteemed naturalist and painter Georgina O’Reefe, 1910-1999.

O’Reefe’s floral work is displayed in every major art gallery above the snow line. Her inspired colours and textures evoke more than just the flowers she depicts. Her Iris series in particular has been noted for the way in which the flowers tend to resemble ballerinas in baggy pants.

Why the Long Face?, 1982, acrylic spray paint on cement wall. By Kevin Herringbone, b.1945.

This acclaimed work by Herringbone was described by the artist as a comment on “the working life of Bond Street bankers.” When asked during a BBC interview in 1997 to elaborate on this explanation, Herringbone replied, “The space monkeys will land tomorrow morning.” This was Herringbone’s last public appearance.

Blair’s bold and intuitive use of colour has taken the art scene by storm. Her parents discovered her enormous talent in early 2006, and have been selling her works to the highest bidder ever since. A different piece in this series recently sold at auction for 1 million Swedish Meatballs.

Stop Looking at Me!, 1975, acrylic on canvas. By modern artist Jerry Kookie, b.1950.

A Canadian living in Paris, Kookie developed his unique style of portraiture while staring at his own reflection in a muddy puddle. Kookie’s portraits evoke a dreamlike state of consciousness, where the viewer is connected to both to the artist and the subject. His portraits also reflect his reluctance to paint hair, ears, or mouths.

Sea Marble Dewdrop, 1998, toothpaste on wood. By abstract artist Salvador Darling, 1933-2003.

Darling was admired for his use of unconventional mediums like dog drool, rabbit pellets, and in his later years, toothpaste. Unfortunately, as a result of dedicating all his toothpaste to his art, Mr. Darling dental care bills have left him penniless.
